LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has taken a major step into politics after emerging as the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate for Abia State ahead of the 2027 general election.
The actress was declared the party’s candidate during the AAC primary election, a development that quickly attracted attention across social media platforms.
A video from the party’s primary process, led by activist and AAC leader Omoyele Sowore, surfaced online showing the moment a returning officer announced Ogala as the party’s nominee.
Another clip captured the actress celebrating her victory with excitement moments after her emergence was confirmed.
Ogala’s entry into the political arena comes months after she made headlines for her outspoken views on governance in Abia State.

In January 2026, the actress publicly defended former governor and senator Orji Uzor Kalu during a disagreement involving the current governor, Alex Otti.
At the time, Kalu had alleged that projects being showcased by the state government were largely initiated during his administration.
Ogala openly backed the senator’s position, arguing that some of the road projects receiving praise were originally executed under his leadership.
Her latest political move has since generated widespread reactions online, with many social media users expressing surprise at her emergence as a governorship candidate.
While some supporters welcomed her decision to venture into politics, others questioned the AAC’s strategy ahead of the 2027 election, sparking a wave of humorous comments and debates across various platforms.
With her nomination now confirmed, attention has shifted to how the actress plans to transition from the entertainment industry into active politics as preparations for the 2027 governorship contest gather momentum.
