LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian comedian AY Makun has urged Nigerians to confront the country’s growing challenges with honesty, saying national issues should rise above politics, ethnicity and religion.
In a statement shared online, the entertainer joined the growing voices expressing concern over the state of the nation following the recent kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
He called for honest self-reflection among Nigerians, arguing that the country’s challenges require collective responsibility rather than political division.
AY suggested that people who rely heavily on politicians or political structures for their livelihoods often struggle to speak openly about governance and accountability.

The comedian maintained that financial ties to political interests can influence individuals willingness to criticize leaders or address pressing national concerns.
“It’s time we tell ourselves some truths. When your source of livelihood depends on politics or politicians, your conscience dies and telling the truth becomes your greatest fear. That is one thing I have noticed amongst us,” he wrote.
The filmmaker stressed that insecurity and other challenges confronting Nigeria should not be viewed through the lens of political parties, tribal affiliations, ethnicity or religion.
Instead, he urged citizens to focus on the broader impact of these issues on the country and work towards meaningful solutions.
“We need to reflect deeply on the state of the nation and our collective responsibility as Nigerians. Today, we are dealing with matters that affect the country, not a political party, tribe, or religion,” AY added.
