LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian rapper Ice Prince has responded to criticism surrounding his appearance at the 2026 All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention, revealing that family ties influenced his decision to perform at the political gathering.
The rapper came under heavy criticism on social media after performing at the ruling party’s event at a time many Nigerians continue to express frustration over rising insecurity and economic hardship across the country.
Several critics accused the artiste of supporting the government instead of using his platform to demand accountability from political leaders.
Speaking during a recent episode of the Black Box podcast, Ice Prince defended his decision, explaining that his appearance at the convention was personal rather than political.

He explained that an uncle whom he respected deeply invited him to perform at the political event.
“Who booked me for that event? My uncle – Nentawe Yilwatda who is the APC Chairman. He is not just a random person to me. He is my real uncle,” he said.
The rapper stated that loyalty to his family prompted his honoring the invite.
Ice Prince is one of several Nigerian entertainers who have faced scrutiny in recent years over their association with political figures and government events.
