ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Activist Aisha Yesufu has withdrawn from the Nigeria Democratic Congress senatorial race for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), effectively ending her ambition to contest the seat in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Friday, Yesufu said the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) would not be conducting primaries for the FCT senatorial position, a development that automatically halted her participation in the race.

According to her, the party had instead decided to focus its primaries on House of Representatives candidates in the FCT.

“Our party has decided not to conduct primaries for the Senatorial seat in FCT Abuja. It however intends to conduct primaries for House of Representatives! Go ahead and make your choice known!” she stated.

Yesufu urged her supporters to remain calm and maintain focus on the broader political goal ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly the presidential race.

“I urge each and everyone of you to remain calm and focus on the bigger picture which is the presidential election. Nigeria will be OK!” she added.

She also appreciated supporters of her campaign, known as the #AishaForSenate movement, for their commitment and encouragement.

The activist further said she would continue engaging residents across the FCT, adding that she plans to visit all six area councils in the coming week to appreciate supporters and promote her advocacy for a better capital city.

Her withdrawal follows speculation that the party may have allocated the FCT senate ticket to another aspirant, though the NDC has not officially confirmed the development.
