ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has formally declared his intention to contest a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections, joining a growing list of entertainers stepping into Nigeria’s political arena.
The actor is contesting under the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), where he will be vying for the Abuja Municipal/Bwari federal constituency seat.
Speaking on his decision, Emeka Ike said his ambition is driven by a desire to contribute to governance reforms and national development through a more structured political approach.
“I’m going for the Federal House of Representatives in Abuja, and we want to make a federal statement,” he said.
He added: “I am running for the federal house of representatives under the Bwari federal constituency in Abuja.”
According to him, his campaign will focus on delivering tangible benefits to citizens and challenging entrenched political interests.

“We want to make a statement. I want to step into the real thing right now if I have made you, Nigerians, happy. Let us see how we bring dividends close to you.
“Let us block the boys who think they have the power. If we stand they will run.”
A video circulating online also showed the actor receiving his nomination form from a party official, marking the formal start of his campaign activities.
A member of his campaign team further disclosed that Ike had already emerged as the NDC’s primary winner and is now gearing up for the 2027 polls.
This is not his first attempt at elective office. In 2018, the Nollywood star contested a House of Representatives seat under the Young Progressive Party (YPP), representing Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State.
Beyond politics, Emeka Ike remains one of Nollywood’s well-known figures, having risen to fame after starring in the 1994 film Deadly Affair.
He has featured alongside top stars including Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, Chioma Chukwuka, Kate Henshaw, Desmond Elliot, Jim Iyke, and Ramsey Nouah.
After a period away from the screen, he returned to Nollywood in 2023 with a role in Malaika, produced by Toyin Abraham.
