ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Former lawmaker Fred Agbedi has said that the possible entry of former President Goodluck Jonathan into the 2027 presidential race will significantly reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Agbedi stated that Jonathan’s return to the race would have far-reaching consequences for the country’s political dynamics, especially as several prominent figures are already positioning for the contest.

According to him, Jonathan is now “better prepared” for leadership and remains one of the most capable figures to guide Nigeria at this time.

He argued that a nation facing serious challenges should prioritize competence and experience in selecting its leaders.

Agbedi further suggested that after the administrations of former President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu, many Nigerians are increasingly open to a return of Jonathan for another term to stabilise the country.

He also confirmed that Jonathan is expected to run on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding that his re-entry would intensify competition in an already crowded race that includes figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Omoyele Sowore.

His comments followed a recent Federal High Court ruling in Abuja which dismissed a suit seeking to disqualify Jonathan from the 2027 presidential election, describing the case as lacking merit and constituting an abuse of court process.

The court also imposed fines on the claimant, while affirming that previous appellate decisions had already cleared Jonathan to contest future elections.

The judgment has further fuelled political discussions around Jonathan’s eligibility and potential comeback ahead of the 2027 general election.
