ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has announced plans to field candidates for all elective positions in the 2027 general elections, including the presidency, as it strengthens its national structure ahead of the polls.
The party said it is targeting at least 10 states where it believes it already has strong political presence and electoral potential.
This position was made known during its State Congress in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where party stakeholders, youth groups, and delegates gathered to reaffirm confidence in the party’s leadership.
The congress, monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ended with the re-election of the party’s FCT executives through a voice vote, in what was described as a peaceful and transparent exercise.
YPP North Central Zonal Representative, Alhaji Muhammed Kursharki, said the party is no longer a fringe political movement, insisting it has built structures across multiple states and remains optimistic about its electoral prospects.

He said the party has previously produced lawmakers, including a senator and House of Representatives members, and believes it can expand its influence if elections are conducted fairly.
“We are very strong in at least 10 states right now. If INEC does the right thing, we will win a lot,” he said.
FCT YPP Chairman, Abraham Adedotun, said the party is positioning itself as a platform for national change, adding that it is determined to participate in all major races, including presidential, senatorial, and House of Representatives elections.
He also said the party had succeeded in building structures despite challenges encountered during previous Area Council elections in the FCT.
Other party officials, including Vice Chairman Blessing David, said YPP’s entry into the 2027 race is driven by the need to address governance challenges and provide alternatives to Nigerians seeking change.
A House of Representatives aspirant, Ugo Young Atakulu, also urged young people in the FCT to engage more actively in politics ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that participation is key to influencing governance outcomes.
The party confirmed that its primary elections are scheduled for Friday, May 29, 2026, as it moves to consolidate its internal democratic processes ahead of the national polls.
