ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Abdulrahman Mohammed has announced former Cross River State governorship candidate, Senator Sandy Onor, as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The decision was reached on Tuesday during the collation of presidential primary results held at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, where a committee chaired by former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, supervised the process.
Ortom, who also heads the PDP Presidential Primaries Collation Committee, said the selection followed broad consultations and voice votes conducted among party members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the committee, Onor emerged as the sole aspirant after earlier declaring interest and purchasing his expression of interest and nomination forms.

Officials said the process involved engagements with party stakeholders nationwide before a consensus was reached.
Following the announcement, PDP leaders, including National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, presented a certificate of return and the party flag to Onor, formally endorsing him as the faction’s candidate.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including National Commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Prof. Rhoda Habor Gumus, observed the exercise at the venue.
The announcement adds a new layer to the PDP’s internal realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
