LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has recounted the final moments he shared with his late first son, Kambilichukwu Edochie, revealing how a normal school morning with jokes suddenly turned into one of the darkest days of his life.

Speaking during an appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, the actor recalled how the heartbreaking morning began like every other normal day before it suddenly shook his family to their core.

Reflecting on that day nearly three years ago, Yul said Kambili came into his room before leaving for school and they both shared laughter moments before his departure.

The actor revealed that they joked about Kambili’s height and teased each other about who was taller among his classmates.

“That was my first son. That morning, he came into my room before going to school. We talked and joked about his height because he was quite tall. We gisted and laughed, then he left,” Yul said.

However, only a few hours later, the actor revealed he received a distressing phone call informing him that something had gone wrong.

He rushed to the hospital where his son had been taken, only to meet his lifeless body waiting for him there.

“About three hours after they called me, I came to the hospital and I saw him dead like this,” the actor recalled emotionally.

Yul admitted that the painful memory is one he struggles to revisit, describing the experience as deeply traumatic.

“The experience is not something I love to remember,” he added.

He also reflected on the emotional burden men often carry during difficult situations, stating that “pity” doesn’t work for men as society expects them to remain strong no matter the circumstances.

“You are a man and no matter what happens to you, you will shoulder on. Pity doesn’t work for men, it works for women. Nobody has time to pity a man,” he stated.

Kambilichukwu reportedly died in 2023 after collapsing during a football game at school and suffering a seizure, a tragedy that sparked widespread sympathy from fans, celebrities and colleagues within the entertainment industry.

Despite the loss, Yul has continued his role as a father to his six remaining children, three from his first marriage to May Edochie and three from his second marriage to Judy Austin.
