ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The African Action Congress (AAC), has adopted Omoyele Sowore as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election following a unanimous endorsement by party members during its presidential primary in Abuja.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Kayode Babayemi, who said the party’s decision reflected confidence in Sowore’s commitment to democracy, justice and good governance.
“I declare Omoyele Sowore as the consensus presidential candidate of the African Action Congress,” Babayemi stated.
He added that the endorsement was based on Sowore’s “consistency in leadership and long-term commitment to the struggle for justice, freedom and a truly democratic Nigeria.”
Babayemi also commended party members and supporters for remaining committed to the ideals and vision of the AAC.

Accepting the nomination, Sowore described the AAC as Nigeria’s only genuine opposition party, insisting that it remained focused on providing Nigerians with a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, the party has resisted political pressure and refused to operate under godfatherism or corrupt influences.
“While some claimed there was no alternative to dictatorship, we declared RevolutionNow in 2019,” Sowore said during his acceptance speech.
The AAC candidate also dismissed growing calls for opposition coalitions, maintaining that the party itself already represents a movement for revolutionary change.
“We are here not only to secure victory, but to bring revolutionary change,” he declared.
“One of the biggest questions asked of us is whether we are forming a coalition. We told them: we are the coalition.”
Sowore said the AAC differed from other political parties because it was built on the collective efforts of ordinary Nigerians rather than what he described as “structures of criminality” and incompetence.
“We don’t have a structure of kidnapping or insecurity,” he said, adding that the party consisted of hardworking Nigerians across different generations and regions.
He further criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress over the country’s economic and security challenges, while also urging international financial institutions, including the International Monetary Fund, to stop granting loans to Nigerian politicians.
Sowore warned that an AAC-led administration would refuse to repay such loans if elected in 2027.
