ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Kwara State Government has approved the payment of a 30 per cent peculiar allowance for workers in media houses, agencies and parastatals who were excluded from the earlier implementation granted to mainstream civil servants.
The approval was announced on Monday in Ilorin through the Office of the Head of Service as part of efforts by the government to promote fairness and inclusiveness within the state public service.
The Acting Head of Service, Olufunke Shittu, disclosed the development in a statement issued by the Press Secretary, Office of the Head of Service, Okanlawon Solomon, noting that the decision aligns with the administration’s ongoing worker welfare reforms.
Shittu said, “This approval reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to fairness, workers’ welfare, and inclusiveness across all cadres of the state workforce.”
She explained that the approval for workers in agencies, parastatals and media houses was aimed at addressing disparities created during the earlier implementation and ensuring that all categories of public servants benefit fairly from government welfare policies.

“The implementation of the 30 per cent Peculiar Allowance will take effect from June 1, 2026, and all affected establishments are to ensure strict compliance,” she added.
The acting Head of Service commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for sustaining initiatives targeted at improving workers welfare and boosting morale across the state workforce.
She also urged employees in the affected institutions to remain committed to their duties and continue supporting government programmes, stressing that improved welfare should be matched with greater dedication to service delivery.
Shittu further revealed that salaries for the month of May had been paid ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to enable workers prepare adequately for the festivities.
“Government wishes all workers and Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyful Sallah celebration, while praying for sustained peace and prosperity in Kwara State,” Shittu stated.
She also congratulated workers across the state and expressed optimism that the welfare measure would further strengthen harmony, motivation and efficiency within the public service.
