ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Sokoto State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has endorsed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its sole presidential candidate ahead of the party’s presidential primaries slated for Monday.
The decision was announced during a press briefing held at the party’s secretariat in Sokoto by Muktari Magori, a former Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
Magori explained that the endorsement followed wide consultations among party leaders and stakeholders across the state as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
He said the consensus reflects a unified position within the party structure in Sokoto State, adding that Atiku’s experience and national reach influenced the decision.
“The essence of this press conference is to officially announce the consensus reached by members and stakeholders of the ADC in Sokoto State to adopt His Excellency, former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Wazirin Adamawa, as the party’s sole presidential candidate ahead of the primaries,” Magori said.

According to him, stakeholders believe Atiku possesses the leadership qualities needed to provide direction for the country and reposition the party for electoral success.
He added that the endorsement shows confidence in Atiku’s political pedigree and long-standing participation in Nigeria’s presidential contests.
Magori also said the decision was aimed at strengthening the party’s unity and improving its chances in the 2027 general elections.
“We believe his candidacy will strengthen the democratic process and offer Nigerians a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
The briefing was attended by key party stakeholders, including senatorial and House of Representatives candidates, members of the State Working Committee led by the party chairman, Abdullahi Maigwandu, and delegates from all 23 local government areas in Sokoto State.
Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president and long-time opposition figure, has contested Nigeria’s presidency several times and remains one of the country’s most prominent political actors.
The endorsement comes amid growing political alignments and coalition discussions across parties ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition groups seek to mount a stronger challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
