LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Colombian music star Shakira has announced that Uganda’s famous dance group, Triplets Ghetto Kids, will join her for the tournament’s halftime performance.
The “Hips Don’t Lie” hitmaker revealed the news via a video on her social media platforms, explaining that she wanted the World Cup show to reflect different cultures and dance styles from around the world.
Shakira announced the Ugandan dance crew is among the selected performers who will share the stage with her during the final match ceremony.
The performance is expected to include “Dai Dai,” the official anthem for the 2026 World Cup, featuring Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy.
The invitation marks another major international moment for the Ghetto Kids, who have built a strong global reputation over the years through energetic choreography and viral dance performances.
Founded by Dauda Kavuma in Kampala, the group first gained worldwide attention after appearing in French Montana’s hit music video for “Unforgettable.”
They later performed during activities linked to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and also reached the finals of Britain’s Got Talent.
The halftime entertainment lineup continues to showcase Africa’s strong presence at the 2026 FIFA World Cup stage.
Alongside Burna Boy’s contribution to the official anthem, Nigerian singer Rema and South African star Tyla are expected to perform during the tournament’s opening ceremony at SoFi Stadium in California, on June 12.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup final is scheduled for July 19 at the MetLife Stadium, where Shakira will co-headline the halftime show alongside Madonna and South Korean boy band BTS, a first in World Cup history.
The latest announcement has sparked excitement across social media, with many fans celebrating the growing recognition of African music and dance talents on one of the world’s biggest sporting stages.
