LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood star Omoshalewa Yusuf, popularly known as Basira Beere, has shared her traumatic past, revealing how her failed marriage dissolved into a nightmare of horrific domestic violence and multiple pregnancy losses.
Speaking during an appearance on the Talk to B podcast, the beloved Yoruba movie star detailed the toxic situation of her past relationship.
She confessed to ignoring red flags early on, even going as far as financially sponsoring the wedding against her friends advice.
The actress revealed that her ex-husband was not as financially stable as she was, adding that she had no problem supporting him.
“When I was about to get married to him, my friends complained that he was of a lower calibre than me, but I told them that I also came from nothing before fame. I sponsored about 70% of our wedding ceremony. I thought I was supporting my man,” she said.

Basira Beere said that her financial sacrifice did not guarantee peace as the union rapidly deteriorated into physical abuse just two days after her wedding.
According to the movie star, a congratulatory message from a male well-wisher who she replied as “dear” led to a violent altercation that prompted her landlord at the time to intervene.
“His problem started three days after our wedding. Days after the wedding, a guy texted me to congratulate me on the wedding, and I called him ‘dear,’ and that was when the problem started. It was so tough; he beat me so much that even our landlord tried to intervene,” Basira Beere revealed.
The actress further blamed her parents for her prolonged stay in the marriage, revealing they advised her to endure instead of being her safety net.
“If I explained what happened to my parents, they kept telling me to be patient and endure,” she added.
While her parents remained clueless to the abusive reality of the situation, her siblings who lived with her witnessed the daily terror.
The situation got so bad that her ex-husband beat her at every chance he got, leading to the loss of four pregnancies at separate occasions.

“Only my siblings who were living with me could attest to what I went through. He beat me over little things to the point that I lost about four pregnancies,” the actress revealed.
She explained that the relentless hostility and physical trauma eventually forced her to flee for her life after one of their fights became public property online.
“During the last fight we had, I was covered in blood. In fact, Gistlover posted about it. I don’t know who leaked it to them,” Basira Beere revealed.
This final, bloody altercation served as her breaking point, prompting her to permanently leave the toxic marriage.
