LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has revealed what she described as her biggest financial mistake after leaving the reality show.
During a recent livestream, the reality star said she regrets spending most of her BBNaija prize money on family responsibilities instead of investing in her future.
Phyna explained that she was still young and inexperienced when she won the competition in 2022, adding that she failed to properly manage the fortune that came with her victory.
“The mistake I made was using my Big Brother Naija prize money to support family members instead of investing it,” she said.
Tearfully reflecting on life after the show, the reality star said she genuinely believed she was helping loved ones by paying debts and handling major expenses for relatives.
Phyna stated that family members constantly approached her for financial assistance rather than advising her on how to grow or protect her money.

“I thought I was helping my family members and sorting out their debts. I was spending generously on them. None of the older family members called me to give me financial advice on how to invest or manage the money well,” she stated.
She also disclosed that she funded several projects for relatives, including digging boreholes for some family members.
Sadly, she revealed tensions began after she refused to meet their constant financial demands.
“All of them were constantly demanding money from me for several stuff. I dug a lot of boreholes for family members. But the moment I started saying ‘No’ that was the beginning of my problem with family members,” she lamented.
The former BBNaija housemate further claimed that some relatives publicly criticized her whenever she refused to give them money.
“They complain and even call me out in the media whenever I can’t meet their demands. But now that the money has finished, I’m the only one facing the reality alone,” she added.
Phyna emerged winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7 in 2022 and received a grand prize package worth N100 million.
The reward included N50 million cash alongside additional prizes from sponsors of the reality show.
