ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-A former Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Manniru Dan’iya, has emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for the 2027 general election in Sokoto State.
He was declared the party’s sole candidate by the Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Professor Aminu Abubakar-Illela, after securing 52,831 affirmative votes.
Abubakar-Illela explained that registered party members across various polling units participated in the voting process, with the outcome later affirmed by a majority of delegates at the party secretariat.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exercise was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and other stakeholders.
“In accordance with the constitution, I hereby certify that Dan’iya satisfied all ADC requirements and is affirmed as the candidate,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, Dan’iya expressed gratitude to party members for the confidence reposed in him, promising to work towards securing victory for the ADC at all levels.
He also pledged to deliver on his mandate if elected in the general election.
NAN further reports that Ambassador Faruku Malami-Yabo was affirmed as the ADC candidate for Sokoto South Senatorial District, while Alhaji Hassan Rabbah and Alhaji Mani Maishinko-Katami emerged as candidates for Sokoto East and Sokoto North Senatorial Districts respectively.
