ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The All Progressives Congress has produced its governorship candidates for Plateau and Kwara states ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, emerging victorious in the party primaries.
In Plateau State, the result of the APC governorship and House of Assembly primaries was announced on Friday night at the party secretariat in Jos by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Fidelis Mnyim, after votes from the 17 local government areas were collated.
Mnyim disclosed that Mutfwang defeated retired military officer, Chief Yilcini Jan Bida, by a wide margin to clinch the party’s ticket.
The governor polled 233,335 votes, while Bida secured 3,070 votes.
“Therefore, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and having scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared elected and returned as the governorship candidate of Plateau State,” the returning officer stated.

Mutfwang had resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party on December 29, 2025, before officially joining the APC on January 2, 2026.
Reacting to the exercise, Plateau APC Chairman, Rufus Bature, praised the committee for organising what he described as a transparent and credible primary, noting that the party would now shift attention to preparations for the main election campaign.
In Kwara State, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, secured the APC governorship ticket after winning the party’s primary election conducted across the 16 local government areas of the state.
The Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, announced the result in Ilorin.
According to Obanikoro, 15 aspirants contested in the primary, with Danladi-Salihu emerging winner after polling 94,990 votes.
Ambassador Yahaya Seriki scored 41,700 votes, while former APC state chairman, Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, garnered 22,118 votes.
Following the exercise, Kwara APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, described the primary election as peaceful and orderly, stressing that members of the party in the state remained united ahead of the 2027 polls.
