LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Spokesperson of the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Onwuasoanya FCC Jones has dismissed claims that Senator Ifeanyi Araraume won the party’s primary election for the Imo North Senatorial District.
The circulating reports on social media was described by the party as false. The Imo APC insisted that the primary election produced only one winner, Senator Patrick Chukwuba Ndubueze.
In a statement released on Saturday, Jones said the party had become aware of what he called misleading information regarding the outcome of the May 18, 2026 primary election.
“The attention of the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has been drawn to a fake news circulating around some social media platforms concerning the outcome of the Imo North Senatorial Primary Election of our Party,” the statement read.
According to the party, three aspirants, including Chief Longers Anyanwu, Chief Ike Kenny Odoeme and Lady Gloria Akobundu withdrew from the race before the exercise, leaving Araraume as the only challenger to the incumbent senator, Patrick Ndubueze.
The APC maintained that Ndubueze secured victory across all 64 wards in the senatorial district and was officially declared the party’s candidate by the National Assembly Primary Election Committee led by Rear Admiral Williams Kayode (Rtd).
“Patrick Ndubueze won overwhelmingly across the 64 wards in the Senatorial District and was duly declared the standard bearer of our Party,” the statement added.

Furthermore, the party said dissatisfied aspirants were given an opportunity to challenge the outcome through the National Assembly Primary Election Appeal Committee.
However, it claimed no petition was submitted.
“This committee made the necessary publication inviting petitions from aspirants, and waited at the Party Secretariat on 47 Okigwe Road to receive such complaints, but none came by, to the best of our knowledge,” the APC stated.
The ruling party also denied reports suggesting internal crisis within its Imo chapter, stressing that it remains committed to democratic principles and party guidelines.
“The Party further clarifies that there is not the slightest iota of discontent within our Party, and that we shall continue to abide by democratic principles in carrying out our business,” the statement stated.
Also, the APC urged members and supporters to avoid actions capable of misrepresenting the party before the public.
The party also called on journalists and media organizations to verify information through official channels before publication in order to protect public trust and media credibility.
