ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The burial rites for the teacher killed during last week’s coordinated attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Adesiyan Adegboye, began on Friday in Ogbomoso amid grief and tension across affected communities.
Adegboye, 49, was reportedly shot dead during the attack carried out by armed bandits who stormed three schools in the area and abducted several teachers and students.
The funeral service commenced at Ayegun Baptist Church, Ogbomoso, ahead of his final interment scheduled for later on Friday at his residence in the Owolake area of the town.
The late teacher, born on December 11, 1976, was killed during the invasion of Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, around 9:30am last Friday.
The coordinated assault triggered panic across the local government area as gunmen reportedly abducted teachers and pupils during the operation.

The incident has continued to generate outrage and fear among residents, parents and education stakeholders in Ogbomoso and neighbouring communities.
Following the attack, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, dispatched additional detectives from the Force Headquarters in Abuja to strengthen ongoing rescue efforts alongside the joint security task force already operating in the area.
The police said the deployment was aimed at ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted teachers and schoolchildren.
Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier confirmed that seven students were kidnapped from Community Secondary School, while another 18 pupils and seven teachers were abducted from First Baptist Primary and Nursery School.
The governor also confirmed that one person was killed during the attack, later identified as Adegboye.
The attack sparked widespread panic in Ogbomoso, forcing many anxious parents to hurriedly withdraw their children from schools over fears of fresh attacks.
Some schools reportedly shut down temporarily after rumours spread that armed bandits had infiltrated the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, an allegation later dismissed by the institution’s management.
Security agencies have continued search-and-rescue operations as residents await further updates on the fate of those still in captivity.
