ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigeria’s youngest lawmaker, Rukayat Shittu, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Owode/Onire State Constituency seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly, securing the party’s ticket for re-election.
Shittu defeated her only cleared challenger, Sulyman Ayegun, in Wednesday’s exercise to clinch the APC nomination.
The primary election, which drew attention across the constituency, was described by party officials and observers as keenly contested, reflecting strong internal support within the party ahead of the general election.

The Owode/Onire constituency has long operated a rotational political arrangement between its Owode and Onire axes, a system that has traditionally limited lawmakers to a single term in office.
Shittu’s victory, however, positions her to attempt a second term in the state assembly, potentially breaking the long-standing political pattern in the constituency if she succeeds at the general election.
Party stakeholders said her emergence signals strong confidence within APC ranks and sets the stage for a competitive electoral season in the constituency.
With the ticket secured, Shittu is expected to campaign on her legislative record and her vision for continued representation of the constituency at the Kwara State House of Assembly.
