ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Former Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, has suffered a political setback after his son pulled out of the race for the Osun Central Senatorial District ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the party’s primary.
In a statement dated May 18, 2026, the younger Oyetola announced his withdrawal from the contest, saying the decision followed wide consultations with party leaders and stakeholders.
He explained that he stepped down in the interest of party unity, stability, and electoral strength, adding that the move was not easy given the level of support he had received from youths and political associates across the senatorial district.

According to him, many supporters had voluntarily backed his ambition, including purchasing nomination forms and mobilising support structures, but insisted that the collective interest of the APC must come first.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the party, urging his supporters to remain calm and united behind the APC leadership and its broader electoral objectives.
The withdrawal adds to a growing list of internal adjustments within the APC as the party intensifies preparations for its primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
