ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has closed the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for its 2027 presidential ticket, with indications that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is the only aspirant who purchased the forms.
Party sources disclosed that at the close of the sale period, Obi was the sole contender for the presidential ticket, effectively placing him in pole position for the party’s 2027 race.
The party, however, announced a one-week extension for the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for other elective positions, including governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly seats.
According to the NDC National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the earlier deadline of 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, was extended to 12 midnight on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
He explained that the extension applies only to other elective positions, stressing that the presidential form collection had officially closed.

“The extension applies only to aspirants seeking tickets into the State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and Governorship positions,” the statement noted.
The party further released a timetable showing that screening of aspirants who purchased and completed forms would commence on Tuesday, May 19, and end on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
It also stated that collection and submission of nomination forms for cleared aspirants would run from May 20 to May 26, 2026.
The NDC warned that no further extension would be granted, urging aspirants to comply strictly with all guidelines and timelines set for the process.
Aspirants were also directed to appear for screening and pre-qualification interviews with relevant documents, including educational certificates, birth certificates or age declarations, passport photographs, voter’s cards, party membership cards and curriculum vitae.
According to the party, all submitted documents must be provided in six copies and screening would be guided by criteria such as competence, capacity, character, local peculiarities and voters’ preferences.
The NDC added that its affirmative action policy for women, youths and persons living with disabilities would also be considered during the screening process.
It encouraged aspirants to adopt consensus-building approaches, noting that only those cleared through screening would be eligible to proceed to purchase nomination forms.
With the development, Obi who recently defected to the NDC from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is widely expected to emerge as the party’s consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
