ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akpabio was returned unopposed during the party’s senatorial primary held at his Ward Centre, Methodist School, Ukana West II in Essien Udim Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by his Media Office on Monday, the exercise witnessed a large turnout of party faithful and constituents who came out in support of his affirmation as the party’s sole candidate.

Although he was the only aspirant, the statement noted that supporters trooped out in large numbers to endorse his candidacy, describing him as a seasoned politician who had consistently delivered effective representation.

It added that the venue of the exercise turned into what appeared like a carnival, with party members singing and dancing in celebration of his emergence.

Party officials, according to the statement, described the process as peaceful, orderly and transparent, while officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society groups and other stakeholders monitored the exercise.

The Returning Officer, Mr. Gabriel Ekong, reportedly commended the turnout and praised party members for their orderly conduct throughout the process.

The statement further noted that APC stakeholders believe Akpabio’s strong support base would boost the party’s chances ahead of the general elections, as mobilisation efforts intensify across the state.

In his remarks after the affirmation, Akpabio expressed appreciation to party members for their continued confidence in his leadership, pledging to sustain quality representation at the National Assembly.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to advancing development initiatives, strengthening party unity and supporting the policies of the APC-led Federal Government.

The Senate President urged constituents to rally behind President Bola Tinubu, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, and all APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.

He further assured his supporters of continued efforts to attract more development projects and dividends of democracy to the senatorial district.
