ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted cocaine and opioid consignments concealed in cartons and destined for the United Kingdom and Australia, as part of a broader nationwide crackdown on illicit drug trafficking.
According to a statement by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the seizures were made on Friday, May 15, 2026, at a courier company in Lagos during routine inspection of outbound shipments.
The agency said operatives discovered 170 grams of cocaine hidden inside the walls of a carton of clothing bound for Australia.
The substance was reportedly sealed in cellophane parcels and carefully concealed to evade detection.
In a separate shipment headed for the United Kingdom, officers also recovered large quantities of controlled opioids, including pentazocine injections, tramadol capsules, and promethazine injections hidden inside another carton.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said the interception was part of intensified surveillance of courier and logistics channels used by drug trafficking networks.

Beyond the Lagos operations, the agency also carried out large-scale destruction of cannabis farms in Delta State, where about 65,000 kilograms of skunk were destroyed in coordinated raids across Ukwuani and Ughelli North Local Government Areas.
Two suspects, identified as Ifeanyichukwu Peter and Godwin Vincent Osadera, were arrested in follow-up operations linked to the destroyed plantations.
In Kaduna State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a suspect allegedly transporting nearly 2,000 rounds of military-grade ammunition concealed in sacks of garri along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
The suspect was later transferred to another security agency for further investigation.
In the Federal Capital Territory, officers arrested a businessman accused of producing drug-laced cakes and cookies for parties. Authorities recovered cannabis and edible drug products during the raid.
Similar operations across Ogun, Taraba, Edo, Oyo, and Kano States also led to multiple arrests and seizures, including opioids, cannabis shipments, and synthetic drugs concealed in everyday household items such as palm oil containers and food products.
NDLEA said the nationwide operations reflect its ongoing strategy to disrupt drug trafficking networks operating within and outside Nigeria, especially those targeting international routes.
The agency added that all suspects arrested in connection with the seizures are undergoing further investigation, while destroyed substances have been documented as part of enforcement procedures.
