ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded its House of Representatives primary elections in Abia State, with Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, and former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, emerging as candidates for the 2027 general elections.

Both politicians secured automatic tickets after emerging unopposed in their respective constituencies during the primaries conducted across the eight federal constituencies in the state.

Kalu will again fly the party’s flag for Bende Federal Constituency, while Onyejeocha clinched the APC ticket for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, reinforcing their political dominance in their strongholds.

The results were officially announced on Saturday night at the APC State Secretariat in Umuahia by the Chairman of the Abia State National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Barrister Erasmus Cishak.

Cishak said the exercise was conducted in a peaceful, transparent and credible atmosphere, adding that party members and stakeholders actively participated in the process across the state.

Former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chinedum Orji, also emerged winner for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, setting up what is expected to be a competitive race in the area.

In other results, Hon. Uzoma Theodore Uka clinched the ticket for Isiala Ngwa North/Isiala Ngwa South, while Hon. Udo Alozie emerged candidate for Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency. Hon. Ikenna Nicholas also secured the party’s ticket for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.

Cishak commended party members for their orderly conduct during the exercise, stressing that the committee ensured strict adherence to internal democracy, fairness and transparency.

The outcome of the primaries is seen as a significant boost for the APC in Abia State as the party intensifies preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with efforts to expand its influence and challenge rival parties across the state.
