ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliot on Friday tendered a public apology to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over what he described as possible misunderstandings arising from his political engagements.
Elliot made the apology during an appearance on TVC’s Your View programme, where he said any perceived offence was unintentional and reiterated his commitment to the party unity and development in his Surulere constituency.
The apology comes in the wake of lingering political tension linked to the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership crisis, during which Gbajabiamila had earlier disclosed that he nearly lost his job at the Presidency over allegations connected to Elliot’s alleged political involvement.
Gbajabiamila had claimed that President Bola Tinubu confronted him over intelligence reports suggesting Elliot’s involvement in moves targeting the impeachment of former Lagos Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, an allegation the lawmaker had previously denied.
Speaking during the programme, Elliot described Gbajabiamila as his political mentor, noting that their relationship was built over years of guidance and mentorship.
“I’m not saying, oh, yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him,” Elliot said.

He added that misunderstandings are part of human relationships, especially in politics.
“To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way,” he said.
Elliot also extended an apology to what he described as the “matriarch of Surulere,” expressing regret for any unintended offence caused in the course of political events.
“To the matriarch of Surulere, mama, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you,” he added.
Despite the apology, the lawmaker maintained that his focus remains on strengthening the party and delivering development projects in his constituency.
“But I will keep keeping the party strong. And to all Surulerians, my scorecard is there. You know the things I’ve done to make Surulere a better place,” he said.
