ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Former presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that he will support Peter Obi or any candidate produced by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that the party’s decision on its flagbearer will be final.
Kwankwaso, who recently aligned with the opposition coalition alongside former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, said the NDC had already agreed to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South for a single four-year term before rotation back to the North.
Speaking on Arise TV’s PrimeTime, he said the decision followed consultations with leaders across the country, adding that members agreed zoning was necessary to reduce political tension and promote balance.
He said, “If the party decides that I will be anybody’s running mate from the South, I am ready.”

According to him, the coalition prioritised national stability over regional interests, noting that leadership quality mattered more than zoning sentiments.
Kwankwaso also revealed that discussions had already begun between him and Obi on how to address insecurity, especially in Northern Nigeria.
He further suggested that a broader alliance involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could still be possible before the 2027 elections, insisting that political differences were not personal conflicts.
He added that the 2027 elections would be strongly influenced by young Nigerians, saying movements like the Kwankwasiyya and Obidient groups share similar reform ideals and could work together effectively.
Kwankwaso also criticised state governors, accusing many of depending heavily on President Bola Tinubu ahead of the next election cycle.
