ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has approved 150 as the minimum admissible score for universities and colleges of nursing in the 2026 admission exercise.

The board also fixed the cut-off mark for polytechnics and monotechnics at 100.

The decision was reached after extensive deliberations at the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions organised by JAMB on Monday in Abuja.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, who chaired the meeting, said the cut-off marks represent the minimum admission requirement and must be strictly adhered to, stressing that candidates are expected to meet the approved standards.

Stakeholders at the meeting also agreed on deadlines for the completion of the 2026 admission exercise across tertiary institutions nationwide.

They unanimously resolved that public universities should conclude admissions on or before Oct. 31, 2026, while private universities are expected to complete their admission processes by Nov. 30, 2026.

Polytechnics, monotechnics, and colleges of education were also advised to finalise admissions by Dec. 31, 2026.

Speaking further, the Registrar of JAMB, Ishaq Oloyede, directed all institutions to conduct their admission exercises strictly within the approved timelines.

Oloyede warned that once the deadline for each category lapses, any institution that fails to conclude its admission process would no longer have access to candidates for that session.

He also approved that successful candidates must accept their admission offers within four weeks, noting that failure to do so within the stipulated period would result in withdrawal of the offers.

According to him, affected candidates may also become ineligible for further admission consideration during the session.

The registrar added that the policy is intended to ensure fairness, transparency, and timely completion of admissions across all tertiary institutions in the country.
