ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), have endorsed a consensus arrangement for President Bola Tinubu’s return as the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 election.

The endorsement came on Thursday in Abuja as governors under the umbrella of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, PGF, submitted Tinubu’s nomination and expression of interest forms, further tightening the ruling party’s grip around the President’s second-term ambition.

Chairman of the PGF and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, said all 31 APC governors were united in support of Tinubu and had resolved to back him through a consensus primary.

According to him, the governors were not taking a fresh position but merely implementing a resolution earlier reached during the APC Political Summit held in 2025, where party stakeholders urged Tinubu to seek re-election.

Uzodimma addressed party leaders, members of the National Assembly and the Federal Executive Council, FEC, during the event.

“In furtherance of that resolution and in making sure it is implemented, we are here today with Mr President to submit his expression of interest form, showing that we are united and have reached a consensus in supporting Mr President to continue the good work he is doing,” he said.

The Imo governor stressed that governors from all APC-controlled states had aligned behind the consensus option, effectively shutting down the possibility of a fierce presidential primary contest within the ruling party.

“On behalf of the governors elected on the platform of our Progressive Congress, from the 31 APC-controlled states out of the 36 states in Nigeria, we believe it is going to be a consensus,” Uzodimma declared.

At the moment, Stanley Osifo remains the only APC chieftain who has reportedly obtained nomination forms to challenge Tinubu for the party’s presidential ticket.

The governors also pledged to aggressively market Tinubu’s policies, programmes and achievements across the country ahead of the election season.

Uzodimma said the governors were prepared to mobilise support nationwide by campaigning on the administration’s record in office.

“We firmly commit ourselves to work assiduously to market the policies and successes recorded by this administration,” he added.

The latest endorsement comes barely a day after the APC National Working Committee waived screening requirements for Tinubu, describing fresh screening for the incumbent President as unnecessary since he had already been cleared ahead of the party’s 2022 presidential primary.
