ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The All Progressives Congress (APC), has waived the screening requirements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential primaries, effectively clearing his path to seek re-election on the party’s platform.
The party’s National Working Committee, NWC, reached the decision during its 188th meeting held on Wednesday, according to a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
Morka said the committee “deemed him as duly screened in accordance with the Constitution of the Party for the purpose of participation in the upcoming primary elections”.
“This decision was made pursuant to the powers conferred on the NWC under Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv) of the Constitution of APC to organise and supervise the party’s primaries and, in special circumstances, grant waivers, in the best interest of the party,” the statement read.
The NWC explained that the waiver was informed by Tinubu’s status as the incumbent president and leader of the party, as well as the endorsements he has received from key stakeholders.

According to the party, Tinubu had already secured overwhelming backing from critical organs, including the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly, and other party stakeholders during the APC National Summit held on May 22, 2025, and at other statutory meetings.
“It noted further that, as the incumbent president and leader of our great party, having been duly screened and cleared ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries, requiring his physical appearance before a screening committee at this time would be redundant and unnecessary,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, James Faleke, has already purchased the president’s nomination form, signalling early momentum for Tinubu’s second-term bid.
Tinubu was first elected president in 2023 after defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi, then candidate of the Labour Party, in a keenly contested election.
The development underscores the APC’s early consolidation around Tinubu as its standard-bearer for the 2027 polls.
