LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood veteran actor Roy De Nani has shared the difficult moments he faced both in his career and personal life, revealing how the movie industry blacklisted and abandoned him when he needed them most.
Speaking on “Where is the lie” podcast, the actor said he was once pushed out of the industry for over a decade without explanation.
He claimed that a powerful figure in the industry blocked him from getting roles.
In his words, “A man gave an order that nobody should give Roy De Nani a job again. For years, even when I was already recording, a producer would come in and say, ‘No, cancel it. Stop.’”
The actor explained that this situation lasted for 13 years. During that time, he received no calls for roles and felt completely shut out.
Nani recalled how the period forced him into deep reflection while he held on to his passion for acting.
He also spoke about painful personal losses, recounting how he lost his brother and no one from the Nollywood community attended the burial or came to support him.

“I have a brother from the same father. When he died, not a single actor or actress showed up,” he said.
The tragedy did not end there as the actor revealed that he later lost both his son and daughter to sickle cell disease.
He revealed that they needed regular blood transfusions to survive, but due to lack of funds for urgent medical care, they died.
Sharing the emotional moment, he said, “I lost my son, I lost my daughter because they needed blood transfusion so they could continue living, but there was no money to buy the blood, and they died.”
After their passing, the actor stated that no member of the film community paid a courtesy visit or offered aid, adding, “Not that they don’t care, but they have not been touched. Let it be said that way.”
Meanwhile, the actor reaffirmed his love for acting. He confirmed that he is still active in the industry, writing scripts and staying open to new opportunities.
“I still act. I write scripts, fantastic scripts. I can still write scripts,” Nani noted.
De Nani, who started acting in the 1990s, has featured in popular films such as Osuofia in London, Long John, Akpu-Nku, Atinga, and many more.
