ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has reaffirmed his commitment to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), amid rising defections within opposition ranks.
In a statement on Tuesday, Rhodes-Vivour acknowledged the growing instability in opposition politics, noting that some members had opted to move to other political platforms.
Describing the moment as a “defining period,” he said the current political climate was testing the unity of opposition forces across the country.
He, however, expressed respect for those who had chosen different paths, insisting that political decisions at such times are often difficult and deeply personal.
“To those who have made the difficult decision to move on to a new platform, I offer my genuine respect and best wishes,” he said, adding that all actors remain united by a common goal of building a better Nigeria despite diverging strategies.

Rhodes-Vivour made it clear that he would remain in the ADC, describing it as the platform he has invested in and continues to help build.
According to him, his decision is not driven by convenience or political advantage but by conviction and commitment to the foundation already laid within the party.
He traced his political journey through KOWA, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party, saying each transition was guided strictly by principle rather than personal interest.
“My political journey did not begin in comfort,” he said, stressing that he has consistently moved away from platforms that no longer aligned with his ideals.
The Lagos politician also insisted he has never compromised with the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, claiming he rejected offers that conflicted with his principles, including financial inducements.

“I walked away then, and I would walk away again. That is who I am,” he added.
He further noted that efforts to strengthen opposition structures in Lagos have continued since the 2023 elections, with emphasis on ward-level organisation and grassroots coordination across local government areas.
The statement comes amid ongoing political realignments within opposition parties as they grapple with defections and internal restructuring ahead of 2027 elections.
