LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Veteran entertainer Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has declared that activists and lawyers Omoyele Sowore and Deji Adeyanju are not on his level, while also reflecting on his age and long-standing legacy.
Speaking candidly, he said that many people still misunderstand his age and status.
The 75-year-old stressed that he is far from being a “boy,” using his family as proof of his life experience.
His father, Chukwudifu Oputa was a highly revered jurist, who served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria during his time.
He headed the Human Rights Violation Investigation Commission, commonly known as the Oputa Panel, in 1999 to investigate human rights abuses during Nigeria’s military era.
The veteran entertainer declared himself the “Area Fada,” a title that reflects a lifestyle of activism and community leadership.

Meanwhile, Charly Boy pointed out that his first son is already in his fifties and has built a successful academic career, reinforcing his claim of seniority.
“My first son is 53 years old. He is an associate Professor…so e no reach me and them in any way. When you talk about Charly Boy people think I’m still a boy. I’m not a boy o, that’s why I’m the Area Fada,” he said.
Reflecting on his long journey in the public eye, the entertainer and activist explained that over the years, he has encountered individuals who started out in activism with genuine intentions but later changed, describing some of them as dishonest.
Speaking further, he did not hold back while addressing well-known activist figures, particularly Omoyele Sowore and Deji Adeyanju.
He openly criticized them, calling them “fake” and stating that he does not consider them to be on the same level as himself.
“I’ve seen people who started and meant well but they ended up nasty. I’ve seen really fake people, like a Sowore, like Deji Adeyanju. These are people I don’t feel are in my class. These are people beneath me…” the Area Fada added.
