ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A foundation leader of the Obidient Movement and Director-General of the Heritage Centre, Katch Onanuju, has said Peter Obi was left with no real choice but to seek his political future elsewhere following internal developments within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking during a telephone interview in Abuja on Sunday, Onanuju explained that Obi’s decision came after wide consultations with supporters and Nigerians who align with his political vision.
He described the move as a difficult but necessary step, driven by what he termed the “yearnings for equity and justice” among Obi’s base, adding that the former Anambra State governor acted with national interest in mind.
According to him, considerations around inclusiveness, fairness, and national balance played a decisive role in the decision, especially within the context of Nigeria’s complex political landscape.

Onanuju argued that building a viable political alternative requires a pragmatic understanding of the country’s realities, including zoning arrangements and power-sharing expectations among regions.
“With due respect to the ADC and other contenders, we believe that getting President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress out of power requires consideration of our peculiarities as Nigerian citizens,” he said.
He further stressed that no part of the country should feel sidelined in leadership arrangements, calling for unity and cooperation across political divides.
Onanuju maintained that the current political climate demands collective action rather than what he described as experimentation, urging stakeholders to focus on “rescuing the country from maladministration.”
