ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority on Monday said it is intensifying efforts to curb the rising cases of accidents involving dispatch riders on major highways across the state.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
Bakare-Oki said the agency had already written to union representatives of dispatch riders as part of its ongoing traffic safety advocacy and enforcement drive.
“There are plans to convene a stakeholders’ engagement with courier service operators and riders to promote strict adherence to safety regulations.

“The engagement will focus on encouraging riders to prioritise not only the safety of other road users,but also their personal wellbeing,” he said.
The LASTMA boss said the Lagos State Government remained committed to safeguarding lives and property.
According to him, the planned engagement will bring together key stakeholders, including unions and service providers, to address concerns and improve compliance with traffic regulations.
He also noted that the agency’s school traffic advocacy programme engages young people to promote road safety awareness and responsible behaviour, while ensuring that safety remains a priority among residents.
Bakare-Oki added that the agency is deliberate in its initiatives, stressing that it is tasked with ensuring optimal safety on Lagos roads by targeting young minds early.
He disclosed that LASTMA had already reached about 38 to 39 per cent of schools in Lagos State between January and March. (NAN)
