LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has applauded workers across the state, highlighting their vital role in economic growth during the 2026 Workers Day celebration themed around insecurity and poverty.
In a statement released on Friday, May 1, the Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, praised workers across the urban city for their immense contributions and impact to the state’s development.
This year’s celebration carries the theme, “Insecurity, Poverty – Bane of Decent Work,” drawing attention to key challenges facing workers nationwide.
Ojelabi noted that Workers Day serves as a time to honour labour, recognize sacrifices, and reinforce the need for fair working conditions.
“Workers’ Day is a moment to honour and celebrate the invaluable contributions of workers and labourers across Lagos and Nigeria. It is a time to recognize their sacrifices, achievements, and the enduring importance of fair and dignified labour practices. On this Workers’ Day, I extend my deepest appreciation to all workers across Lagos for their dedication and hard work,” he said.
He described workers as the backbone of Lagos economy, stressing their role in sustaining the state’s growth and reputation.

“You are the lifeblood of this great state, sustaining its reputation… Since the dawn of our democracy, you have remained the backbone of every milestone and progress we celebrate. Your commitment continues to keep Lagos moving and thriving as a centre of excellence,” the party chairman stated.
Ojelabi also acknowledged the contributions of workers at the national level under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as within Lagos under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to improving the standard of workers nationwide, through timely payment of salaries and structured benefits.
“Across the nation, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, workers continue to play a central role in driving growth and stability. In Lagos, under Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, their efforts have helped position the state as a beacon of progress and national pride. As an APC-led government, we remain committed to prompt payment of wages and improved labour standards,” he noted.
He also praised the resilience of workers across different groups in the state, urging for continued support to build a better and safer nation.
“I especially commend all Lagos workers, youths, women and men, for your resilience and unwavering dedication. Your contributions to the economy and society remain immeasurable… Together, we will continue to build a stable, prosperous Lagos and a stronger Nigeria,” Ojelabi concluded.
Ultimately, celebrations took place at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, where workers gathered to mark the occasion and reflect on the importance of decent work in the face of current economic challenges.
