ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Tension is mounting in Benue State as residents of Logo Local Government Area raise alarm over what they describe as a heavy influx of armed herders into the Gaambe-Tiev axis, sparking fears of a potential security crisis.
Locals say the movement of the herders, reportedly accompanied by large numbers of cattle, has created widespread anxiety among communities that depend largely on farming for survival.
A resident, who spoke anonymously for security reasons, described the development as troubling and dangerous, warning that the situation could escalate if urgent action is not taken.
“The influx of these armed men into our communities is worrisome. People are living in fear because we do not know what could happen next,” the source said.
According to residents, daily activities have already been disrupted, with many farmers abandoning their farmlands over safety concerns, a development that could affect food production in the area.

Another resident, a yam farmer identified as Ukange Abogh, said the pattern mirrors previous incidents that resulted in violent clashes in parts of the state.
“We have seen this pattern before, and it often does not end well. That is why we are calling for urgent intervention,” he said.
Abogh noted that the Gaambe-Tiev communities had enjoyed relative peace in recent times but warned that the current development could trigger a breakdown of law and order.
He urged security agencies and government authorities to act swiftly to prevent the situation from deteriorating and to safeguard lives and property.
“We are calling on the government and security agencies to step in immediately. Their presence will help calm nerves and prevent any form of crisis,” he added.
Efforts to get a response from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
