ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-.Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke has accused elements within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State of plotting to disrupt the August 15 governorship election, alleging that the opposition is acting out of fear of defeat.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor claimed that members of the opposition party were resorting to anti-democratic tactics in a bid to subvert the will of the electorate.
“Having seen clearly that Osun people have rejected them, they are now resorting to anti-democratic means in a last-ditch effort to secure power,” the statement read.
Adeleke further cited what he described as internal opinion polls allegedly commissioned by the APC between late 2025 and March 2026, which he said placed the party’s popularity below 30 per cent, while his administration’s approval rating stood between 68 and 72 per cent.
“This clearly shows that Governor Adeleke enjoys overwhelming support from the people. The opposition can already see the outcome ahead of August 15,” the statement added.

The governor also alleged that tensions within the opposition escalated following remarks attributed to Akin Ogunbiyi regarding the stance of President Bola Tinubu on the forthcoming election.
According to him, once it became evident that there would be no external interference in the electoral process, factions within the APC became unsettled and intensified efforts to destabilise the political environment.
He accused the opposition of attempting to manipulate smaller political parties and pushing for their deregistration after failing to gain control of them.
“They are afraid of the people and the power of the ballot. That is why they are working tirelessly to undermine the democratic process and deny citizens their constitutional rights,” the statement said.
However, the APC in Osun State dismissed the allegations, describing them as baseless and a sign that the governor was bracing for defeat.
Reacting, the party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, said key figures had defected from Adeleke’s camp, weakening his political base.
“This is simple arithmetic. Those who are somebody in their camp have all left. What is left of their party?” Olabisi said.
He urged residents to disregard the governor’s claims, insisting that the APC remains confident ahead of the election.
