LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)– Senegalese-American singer and producer Aliaune Badara Thiam, known popularly as Akon, is making headlines after revealing his life felt easier and more exciting when he was involved with multiple women.
Speaking during an interview with The Shade Room (TSR), the 53-year-old shared personal reflections about his past love life.
During the interview, Akon spoke about his earlier polyamory lifestyle, describing it as more exciting compared to his current situation.
“My life was much easier when I had multiple women surrounding me. But being with just one woman isn’t as exciting,” he said.

When his host asked him to clarify his current romantic status, the “Lonely” hitmaker chose not to go into details.
Instead, he responded with humor, saying, “I plead the fifth; it will be incriminating to answer,” leaving fans guessing about his present relationship status.
Meanwhile, his comments come months after news of his split from his longtime partner Tomeka Thiam.
The couple who share a daughter, Journey, ended their 28-year marriage in September 2025, citing irreconcilable differences.

Previously, the artist had spoken about his support for polygamy.
In past interviews, he confirmed that he has four wives and follows polygamy, saying he has nine children, seven boys and two girls by multiple women, although not all of them were born within his marriages.
He also explained that his unions are not legally registered court marriages, but religious marriages instead, adding that his wives are comfortable with the arrangement.
The singer’s latest remarks have reignited public discussion about modern relationships and the balance between tradition and individual lifestyle preferences.
