LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood star Uzor Arukwe has openly shared the challenges he faced at home after choosing acting as a full-time career, revealing his father’s refusal to acknowledge or accept his choice.

During a recent conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the actor, fondly called Odogwu Paranran by fans, reflected on his journey in the film industry.

He explained that pursuing acting did not sit well with his parents, especially his father.

Arukwe said his father has never fully accepted his profession, despite hearing about his achievements.

The actor said this lack of acknowledgment created a deep emotional distance between them.

“My father doesn’t know that I’m an actor; he has heard, but he doesn’t want to believe,” he said.

The actor also revealed that his mother initially shared a similar opinion, largely influenced by respect for her husband’s views.

This in turn, made things harder for him, as he had hoped at least one parent would openly support his ambition.

Notably, over time as he stayed consistent to his dreams and grew as a recognized face featuring in major Nollywood projects, Arukwe’s mother gradually accepted his decision.

“My mum was slow to adapt because of her husband but she later came around,” he added.

The actor, who rose to fame for his role as the beloved Odogwu Paranran in Omoni Oboli’s Love In Every Word, said it was deeply painful to pursue his dreams without support from his family who meant everything to him.
