ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party has thrown its weight behind the party’s newly elected National Working Committee, pledging total support for the leadership as it takes charge of the party’s affairs.

Speaking shortly after the party’s 2026 National Convention held in Umuahia, the state chairman, Peter Azubuike, described the emergence of the new executives led by Nenadi Usman as National Chairman and Iheanacho Obioma as a defining moment for the party.

He said the development signals a new phase of unity and stability within the Labour Party following a period marked by internal disputes and political uncertainty.

Azubuike also paid tribute to the outgoing interim leadership, commending what he called their “courageous and strategic efforts” in steering the party through turbulent times.

Expressing confidence in the new leadership, he said the fresh mandate offers an opportunity to strengthen party structures and reposition the party ahead of future elections.

“The emergence of the new NWC presents a fresh opportunity to strengthen party structures, deepen internal democracy, and reinforce the Labour Party’s commitment to delivering people-oriented governance across Nigeria,” he said.

He assured the national leadership of the Abia chapter’s unwavering loyalty, describing the state as a stronghold of the party and a model for progressive governance.

“I want to assure the national leadership of unwavering support from the Abia chapter. The state will remain a stronghold of the party and a model for progressive governance.

“Our commitment in Abia is total. We will work in close collaboration with the national leadership to ensure that the vision and objectives of the Labour Party are not only achieved but sustained. Abia will continue to play a strategic role in the growth and expansion of the party,” Azubuike added.

The chairman also acknowledged the role of Governor Alex Otti, describing him as a key driver of the party’s growing acceptance and popularity in the state.

He further commended party members across Abia for their resilience and loyalty, noting that their commitment has helped keep the party united despite previous internal challenges.

Azubuike said the renewed unity within the party would serve as a foundation for stronger performance in upcoming political contests.
