(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Minister for Minerals Anthony Mavunde said Tanzania will strengthen the enforcement of local content rules, including restricting foreign companies from engaging in mining services that Tanzanians can provide.
The government has identified 20 services and products in the mining sector that must be exclusively delivered by Tanzanian individuals or locally owned companies.
The move is aimed at deepening Tanzanian participation across the mining value chain and ensuring that more economic benefits remain within the country.

Mavunde, while presenting his ministry’s budget proposals for the 2026/2027 financial year in parliament in Dodoma, the capital, said between July 2025 and March 2026, 1,082 local content participation plans were submitted, exceeding the target of 750.
The plans spanned various categories, including large-, medium-, and small-scale mining licenses, prospecting licenses, and more than 1,000 service providers supporting mining operations, Mavunde said.
According to the minister, the government will continue tightening oversight mechanisms to ensure compliance with local content regulations and to safeguard opportunities for Tanzanians in the mining industry.
