ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Lagos State Government has dismissed swirling reports that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been asked to resign on health grounds, describing the claims as false, misleading, and entirely without basis.
The state government, in a statement issued Monday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said the report circulating on an online platform was a fabrication that should be ignored by the public.
“We have noted with concern a false report alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been ‘ordered to resign on health grounds’ with the Deputy Governor set to take over,” the statement read.
“This report is false in its entirety. Nobody has asked the Lagos Governor to resign. This is another fake news, which has become a pattern.”
The government maintained that the governor remains in good health and fully in charge of state affairs, dismissing any suggestion of incapacitation.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his duties as Governor of Lagos State,” the statement added.
Clarifying speculation around internal political moves, the government confirmed that Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, had earlier paid a scheduled courtesy visit to the governor.
According to the statement, the meeting was to formally notify the governor of his intention to contest for the governorship position, describing the interaction as routine and conducted in a cordial atmosphere.
“Earlier today, the Governor received Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who paid him a courtesy visit to formally notify him of his intention to contest for Governor. The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, as is customary,” it stated.
The government urged residents and the general public to disregard the viral claims, stressing that the governor remains fully engaged in governance and continues to carry out his responsibilities without interruption.
It added that such misinformation should be treated as fake news and cautioned against its spread.
