ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has issued a stern warning against the diversion of funds meant for grassroots activities, while placing an outright ban on unauthorised screening of aspirants ahead of upcoming party processes.

The resolutions were reached at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, where party leaders across the state gathered to assess operations and reinforce internal discipline.

Presiding over the meeting, State Chairman Yemi Sanusi cautioned ward and local government officials to strictly utilise funds allocated for party administration, particularly meetings at the grassroots.

ā€œThese funds are designated solely for party activities at the grassroots and must not be diverted for personal use under any circumstances,ā€ he warned.

Sanusi also disclosed that modalities for the sale of nomination forms would soon be announced, in line with directives from the party’s national leadership.

He stressed that regular ward and local government meetings remain critical to sustaining party strength, describing them as ā€œindispensable to party vitality.ā€

The meeting drew participation from members of the State Executive Committee, representatives from all 20 local government areas, council chairmen, and over 200 ward chairmen.

During deliberations, ward chairmen raised operational challenges affecting grassroots administration, with the party’s Administrative Officer, Hon. Bankole, assuring them of improved coordination.

Speaking for local government party chairmen, their leader acknowledged lapses in performance and pledged renewed commitment moving forward.

Other stakeholders also weighed in, urging stronger grassroots engagement and improved financial support for party structures.

Chairman of Local Government Executive Chairmen, Dr. Mrs. Adeyemo, called for greater dedication from party officers.

ā€œWe must redouble our efforts at the grassroots. The governor has shown unprecedented support to party structures, and we must justify that confidence,ā€ she said.

Similarly, Chief Mrs. Ronke Ogunremi urged political office holders to increase support for party organs, while Chief Mrs. Iyabo Apampa advocated mandatory financial contributions from appointees to sustain grassroots operations.

Party elder Alhaji Kasali Kalejaiye emphasised the need to carry elders along in decision-making to strengthen internal monitoring.

ā€œKeeping elders fully informed will strengthen monitoring and ensure better control within the party,ā€ he noted.

In a key decision, stakeholders unanimously outlawed unauthorised screening of aspirants at any level within the state.

ā€œNo individual or group is permitted to conduct screening outside official guidelines. Anyone who jumps the gun will face severe sanctions,ā€ the resolution stated.

The State Organising Secretary, Hon. Yemi Adelani, also announced the conclusion of the party’s membership e-registration exercise.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by party leaders to unity, discipline and electoral success, as the Ogun APC positions itself for forthcoming political activities.
