LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian comedian Otaghware Otas Onodjayek, popularly known as I Go Save has drawn public attention to the surge of street begging in Lagos, calling it a “growing pandemic.”
Sharing his thoughts via his Instagram Story, the entertainer described the situation as urgent and troubling, urging authorities to act fast.
In his post, he compared how begging appears in different parts of the country.
The comedian highlighted the stark difference between the humble soliciting of alms in Northern Nigeria and the aggressive nature of their Lagos counterparts.
“In the northern parts of Nigeria, beggars hold plates, but in Lagos beggars hold stones,” he wrote.

He further expressed concern about safety and the growing visibility of the practice in busy public spaces.
I Go Save called on government authorities to step in without delay and put an end to the crisis before it escalates.
“The government needs to stop this growing pandemic in Lagos instantaneously,” he added.
His comments sparked conversations across social media, with followers debating the causes of rising street begging and possible solutions.
While some agree with his concerns, others argue that the issue is tied to deeper economic challenges that require lasting policies rather than the usual street clean-up by authorities.
