ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has taken a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over a viral photo showing him apparently asleep during the recent opposition summit in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The summit, held on Saturday, brought together key opposition figures who resolved to work towards presenting a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election, in what is seen as a major realignment effort against the ruling party.

Among top political heavyweights present at the meeting were Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and former Governor of Kwara State Abdulfatah Ahmed.

Reacting on his X handle, Basiru shared the image of Atiku appearing to be asleep during proceedings, accompanying it with a jab: ā€œAnd the opposition leader slept at the all-important opposition summit.ā€

The APC chieftain doubled down on the mockery by reposting the same image in response to claims that the ruling party had grown uneasy over the opposition’s move to unite ahead of the next presidential election.

The Ibadan summit is part of ongoing consultations among opposition leaders seeking to forge a formidable coalition, amid shifting political alliances and growing permutations ahead of the 2027 polls.
