ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Former Governor Bala Mohammed has disclosed details of his closed-door meeting with Peter Obi, saying discussions centred on economic recovery, citizens’ welfare and Nigeria’s political direction.

Mohammed made the disclosure on Thursday via his X account, confirming that he hosted the former Labour Party presidential candidate at the Government House in Bauchi.

“Today, I received the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and a chieftain of the ADC, Mr. Peter Obi, at the Government House in Bauchi. Our discussions centered on critical national issues, including economic recovery and the welfare of our citizens,” he said.

The governor noted that both leaders also reviewed the country’s evolving political climate and stressed the urgency of strengthening democratic institutions.

“We also took time to review the evolving political landscape and emphasized the urgent need to strengthen our democratic institutions,” he added.

Mohammed commended Obi for the visit, describing the engagement as timely and necessary in addressing Nigeria’s challenges.

“I commended him for the visit, as engagements of this nature foster mutual understanding and help drive practical, people-focused solutions,” he said.

He further revealed that both leaders agreed on the need for political actors to prioritise national interest above partisan considerations.

“We jointly urged all stakeholders to rise above partisanship and place the national interest at the forefront of all decisions,” Mohammed stated.

The meeting comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with increased consultations among key actors across party lines.
