ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Jonathan arrived the Aso Rock Presidential Villa around 4 p.m., with sources indicating that the meeting formed part of ongoing consultations between both leaders on West African political developments and Nigeria’s broader continental engagements.
Though the agenda of the meeting was not officially disclosed, it is understood to be consistent with a pattern of periodic engagements between Tinubu and Jonathan on regional affairs.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the meeting via his X account (formerly Twitter), posting photographs of both leaders.
He wrote, “President Tinubu meets former President Goodluck Jonathan at the Villa.”

Images from the meeting showed both men in what appeared to be a relaxed discussion inside the president’s office, with a “Two-Year Milestone” document visible in the background.
As of the time of filing this report, the presidency had yet to issue an official statement detailing the purpose of Jonathan’s visit.
Jonathan’s last known visit to the State House was in November 2025, shortly after he was evacuated from Bissau following a coup attempt led by soldiers loyal to Brigadier-General Dinis Incanha.
During that episode, the former president had been leading the West African Elders Forum election observation mission ahead of the country’s presidential poll.
He was subsequently airlifted out on a jet reportedly provided by Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara after the arrest of incumbent President Umaro Sissoco Embaló on November 26, a day before the electoral commission was to announce the official results of the November 23 election.
