ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has tendered his resignation from office, effective April 30, 2026, in a formal letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In the letter dated April 22, 2026, and addressed through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Adelabu expressed appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve in the Federal Government.
He described his appointment as a rare honour, saying it allowed him to contribute to national development and ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s power sector.
“I write with a deep sense of honour and profound gratitude to formally tender my resignation as the Honourable Minister of Power of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“This resignation is to take effect on 30th April 2026, in order to allow sufficient time for a smooth and orderly handover of responsibilities,” he stated.
Adelabu said his decision was driven by his intention to focus on other personal and professional engagements, though details of those plans were not fully disclosed in the letter excerpt.
He added that serving under the Tinubu administration had been a privilege, particularly in efforts aimed at repositioning the power sector as a key driver of industrial growth and economic transformation.
The resignation letter was received at the Presidency on April 22.
Meanwhile, informal remarks circulating alongside the development suggested the Minister had expressed confidence that ongoing challenges in the power sector would eventually be addressed, but hinted at stepping away from the responsibility.
As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency had not issued an official response on his resignation or a possible successor.
