ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- United States President, Donald Trump, on Tuesday announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran to allow more time for negotiations, even as he ordered the continuation of a naval blockade on the country’s ports.
Trump disclosed this via a post on his Truth Social platform, stating that he would “extend the Ceasefire” pending a concrete proposal from Iran to resolve the ongoing conflict.
However, he made it clear that US forces would maintain pressure through the blockade.
“I have directed our Military to continue the Blockade,” he said.
The extension came just hours before the existing truce was expected to expire, raising concerns about a possible escalation before the last-minute decision.
The development also coincided with confirmation from the White House that Vice President, JD Vance, would no longer travel to Pakistan for a planned second round of peace negotiations.

President Trump attributed the delay in talks to internal divisions within Iran, suggesting that the country’s leadership had yet to present a unified position.
“Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal,” he wrote.
Despite the extension, Trump emphasised that the naval blockade along Iran’s coastline, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, would remain in force, while US forces stay on high alert.
“The ceasefire will be extended until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other,” he added.
The move signals a delicate balance between diplomacy and military readiness, as Washington keeps pressure on Tehran while leaving the door open for negotiations.
